BT announce a trigger level for Wroxton along with 2,299 others!

On Monday morning BT announced trigger levels for the rest of the country (2,300 exchanges); it leaves 600 exchanges that don’t have a trigger level.

This is despite the 322 exchanges that they announced were “UNVIABLE” a few weeks ago.

The list for the exchanges that cover Oxfordshire, including Wroxton is:

Wroxton – why 300

From BT

“The new trigger levels are based on a weighted average of the total costs of enabling all these 2,300 exchanges. This means larger exchanges have received higher trigger levels. There are approximately 1100 lines on the exchange, which is why your target is 300.

We are aware that some of the new trigger levels will be quite challenging to hit and we will seek the help of local and government organisations to enable these exchanges early or allow us to reduce these targets. Of course we will also continue to work with the hundreds of local campaign groups which have actively supported our registration scheme over the last months and try to encourage demand as much as we can.”

What we need to do now

We need to cajole our neighbours, register all our BT phone lines, they now accept them all, they didn't previously, fill in my registration page and I can send the relevant details to Merula who will register them directly with BT.

Oxfordshire Rural Broadband

As the project was based on public funding for market failure we are waiting for SEEDA to decide whether the time to reach the new trigger levels would be deemed as market failure, if it is then we might have a project to move forward.

Local Events

Tonight, 19th November, Business Link are hosting the last of a series of events entitled “Realistic, accessible, affordable IT Solutions” this will show how to use broadband once you have it rather than how to get it, ORB and representatives of its cousin, White Horse Broadband, will be speaking.

Rye Hill Golf Club, Banbury, 4:00pm

Web forum

I have created a web based forum for you to discuss the above and provide some community content.

http://forums.broadband4wroxton.org.uk/phpBB2/

Whilst I have been testing the forums I have had several ‘male enhance*ment’ companies trying to register and copy the membership list, so I have made the registration both compulsory and moderated. Once you register the system sends me an email and I open the door, once open you get a confirmatory email to access.
